Indications:
Itogut is used to relieve gastrointestinal symptoms associated with chronic gastritis such as abdominal fullness, upper abdominal pain, loss of appetite, heartburn, nausea and vomiting.
Pharmacology:
Itopride hydrochloride is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It increases acetylcholine levels, thereby enhancing gastrointestinal motility, improving gastric emptying and strengthening lower esophageal sphincter function.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual adult dose is 50 mg taken orally three times daily before meals. Dose may be adjusted based on age and clinical response. Not recommended for use in patients under 18 years.
Drug Interactions:
Use cautiously with anticholinergic drugs (e.g., scopolamine, tiquizium), as they may reduce the effectiveness of Itogut by decreasing gastrointestinal motility.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug or where increased gastrointestinal motility is harmful, such as in gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction or perforation.
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated, but may cause rare allergic reactions, liver function abnormalities or gastrointestinal disturbances.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh risks. Not recommended during breastfeeding due to lack of sufficient data.
Precautions and Warnings:
Use with caution as it enhances acetylcholine activity. Avoid prolonged use without improvement. Monitor for allergic reactions and liver dysfunction.
Overdose Effects:
Overdose should be managed with gastric lavage and supportive treatment.
