Escitalopram Oxalate is a highly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used primarily for the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. It functions by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) at the presynaptic neuronal membrane, thereby increasing the concentration of this neurotransmitter within the synaptic cleft and enhancing serotonergic neurotransmission.
