**Dlac 3.35 gm/5 ml Oral Solution
- **What it is:** A **lactulose-based osmotic laxative**.
- **Uses:**
- **Chronic constipation**
- **Intestinal flora disturbances** after long-term antibiotics
- **Gall bladder diseases**
- Some **intestinal diseases** like colitis, diverticulosis, megacolon
- To reduce **high blood ammonia** in liver disease / hepatic encephalopathy
**How it works**
- It draws water into the bowel, softens stool, and helps bowel movements.
- It also lowers colon pH and helps reduce ammonia absorption.
**Dosage**
- **Constipation:** Usually once daily, dose depends on age
- **Liver disease / high ammonia:** Higher and more frequent doses may be used as prescribed by a doctor
- It may take **2–3 days** to work
**Common side effects**
- Flatulence
- Abdominal cramps or discomfort
- Diarrhea
- Nausea, vomiting
- Electrolyte loss if overused
**Do not use if**
- Allergy to **galactose/lactose**
- **Suspected intestinal obstruction**
- On a **galactose-free diet**
**Warnings**
- Use carefully in people intolerant to lactulose
- Higher doses may be needed for liver-related use, including in diabetics
- Overdose may cause **diarrhea and abdominal cramps**
