**Zeptol (Carbamazepine) —
- **Uses:**
- Partial and secondary generalized tonic-clonic seizures
- Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures
- Trigeminal neuralgia (severe facial nerve pain)
- Prevention/maintenance treatment of bipolar disorder
- **How it works:** Reduces excessive electrical activity in the brain, helping control seizures and nerve pain.
- **Dosage:** Depends on the condition, age, body weight, other medicines, and response to treatment. It is usually started at a low dose and increased gradually. **Take it only as prescribed by a registered doctor.**
- **Common side effects:**
- Dizziness and drowsiness
- Unsteadiness or poor coordination
- Nausea and vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Dry mouth
- Loss of appetite
- **Seek immediate medical attention if you develop:**
- Skin rash, blistering, peeling, or severe itching
- Fever, sore throat, unusual weakness, or easy bruising/bleeding
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain
- Breathing difficulty, fainting, or abnormal heartbeat
- **Important precautions:**
- Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy or sleepy.
- Increased sensitivity to sunlight may occur; use sunscreen and protective clothing.
- **Do not stop Zeptol suddenly**, as seizures or symptoms may worsen. It should usually be reduced gradually under medical supervision.
- Zeptol can reduce the effectiveness of estrogen- or progesterone-containing contraceptives. Discuss alternative or additional contraception with your doctor.
- Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, heart, blood, or eye problems.
- Consult a specialist before using it during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- **Do not use without medical advice if you have:** Heart conduction block, bone marrow depression, porphyria, allergy to carbamazepine or tricyclic antidepressants, or recent MAOI antidepressant use.
- **Storage:** Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture, and keep out of children’s reach.
